Llan is a Celtic word for ‘yard or place’, and ‘trissant’ was derived from the Welch word ‘trist’, or the Middle English word ‘tryst’, a secret meeting between lovers. However, the citizens of the Welsh city of Llantrisant (spelled with only one ‘s’) consider that it means ‘The Church of Three Saints.’
